There are many situations where you might need to find the difference between two time points (such as to schedule multiple events, track and manage work hours, or plan travel itineraries). Also, as the time format is physiognomy as HH:MM (Hours:Minutes), knowing calculating the difference can save additional time and frustrations.
Example Calculation
For example, to find the difference between 14:30 and 10:15:
- 14:30 = 14 * 60 + 30 = 870 minutes
- 10:15 = 10 * 60 + 15 = 615 minutes
- Difference = 870 – 615 = 255 minutes
- Convert back: 255 minutes = 4 hours and 15 minutes
Interesting Facts About Time
- Time zones were first proposed by Sir Sandford Fleming in the late 19th century.
- Seconds, minutes, and hours are units of time—it gets much smaller! The smallest unit of time is Planck time, which is roughly 5.39 × 10-44 seconds.
- In certain cultures, time conception is cyclical, rather than linear, which impacts event processing and scheduling differently.
